Defenders on Disney+.. my thoughts and tiny recons on AOS and FF

Hi

I am SO excited for the return of the Defenders.. and lets get our terminology straight, I don't feel it should be referenced as 'Daredevil Netflix MCU Shows'.. these are the Defenders.. they were always MCU and will continue to be such.. much to my enthusiasm..

Iron Fist was the weakest of the 5 Shows.. oh better list them:

Daredevil

Jessica Jones

Luke Cage

Iron Fist

Punisher

Iron Fist was the weakest of the 5 Shows.. watching Finn Jones act child-like while going on about Dragons, did not fit in with the rest of the shows theme/s.. street level heroes. Not to mention the MCU was magic light at the time with only Dr. Strange having made an appearance, a singular one at that..

You could say 'Thor' but as explained his people's abilities are Tech represented as magic.

Agents of Shield (AOS) was less magic light.. especially with Robbie Reyes, Ghost Rider. The writer for WandaVision really dropped the ball on the Darkhold.. but I'll come to that later.

Iron Fist would fit in now with the rest of the MCU, I am still unsure about the Defenders and how Danny Rand can provide a financial mcguffin for all the Defenders financial problems.. especially Jessica who is usually broke.. but The Mighty Feige made it work with Tony Stark and the Avengers..

The supporting cast were great in Iron Fist, Jessica Stroup is deftly attractive and an excellent actress, Tom Pelphrey had a few shakey moments in the early episodes, but by the end I was compelled by his acting and *really* felt for his character! The connection between Danny and Jeri..the acting between Finn and Carrie.. well that had me crying.. it was beautiful.

I'm not saying.. cancel Iron Fist, I'm simply saying it needs work to smooth over those moments where Danny goes off on one, talking about his mysticism.. a lot of work. Because the rest of the foundation is good. And I am equally accepting of a 'Heroes for Hire' series.. duo team ups.. Coleen and Misty, Luke and Danny.. flip even Jessica and Matt.. a 6 episode run once a year.. like Defenders every 4 years, but for a duo.

Back to the main topic..

The Defenders... core team Defenders are:

Daredevil

Jessica Jones

Luke Cage

Iron Fist

Claire Temple (the ONLY non powered core Defender)

Defenders (junior members):

Colleen Wing

Misty Knight

Defenders Support:

Foggy Nelson

Karen Page

Jeri Hogarth (also villain/mixed morality)

Malcolm Ducasse

Ward Meachum

Both Frank Castle (Punisher) and Trish Walker (Hellcat) are former support to Daredevil and Jessica Jones respectively but in solo endeavours and not support to the Defenders. Karen Page is support to Frank Castle.. where he reluctantly treats her somewhere between his love interest and his sister.

What usually happens in teams, is when a core member is incapacitated, a junior member moves up and a suport moves up to a junior member.. if it were me, I'd probably move Jeri up as she is formidable.. but really it should go what and who is needed.

It can be argued that Coleen and Misty are full members.. and I won't hotly disagree.. Coleen has been Iron Fist, and Misty lost and arm defending NY with the Defenders.. but they should have a moment.. a something a party.. something, showing how solid the core team is and how you need to qualify to be in the core team and after that a celebration to mark the occasion..

Agents of Shield & The Darkhold

I keep imagining a scene.. a scene of retcon..

Fury Talking to Coulson:

Fury: WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MISTER DIRECTOR?? whom I put in charge..

C: Where do I start.. time travelling and robot AI and Hydra..

F: STOP!

Fury: The last thing I was aware of.. you were with Robbie Reyes and then got stuck in a paradox.. I told you not to mess with those monoliths didn't I? They have power beyond our imagination.. and you think y'all take them for a spin huh?

C: .. to be fair.. Director Fury.. they took us for a spin..

This makes total sense as season 5,6 and 7 would NOT be canon to the MCU (because it was inside a paradox) but the rest would.. except in the mind of those who experienced it.. e.g. Daisy 'Sky' Johnson A.K.A Quake. (Chloe Bennet) Fitz/Simmons would remember it.

And remember AOS broke time when they got Enoch to retrieve the first version of Fitz after the second returned version died trying to save them.. in other words they decided to cheat time and created a paradox inside a paradox.. not smart.

Oh MAN I'd love to see Quake as a full Avenger! Quake is easily on par with the upper tier Avengers in levels of power.. she can rip whole planets apart.

We could have a retcon where it is later stated that Agatha Harkness got the Darkhold AFTER the point in time it was returned to Ghost Rider as time moves differently in Ghost Riders dimension.

HONESTLY.. the MCU needs a team of continuity directors! Checking writer's work and not letting them just say (gibber on about) anything they like.. as if its a self contained story.. IT'S NOT A SELF CONTAINED STORY! all the parts need to work together like a cog in a machine.

Story, Actors.. It's like this..

You shouldn't have the same actors for different parts.. once you use an actor/actress for something, that's them used, marked and burnt.. with *one exception*

Both Star Trek and Doctor Who reuse actors but because both productions know how crazy fans get.. how annoyed they get are re-using actors..  the exception is this:

If they are an alien/covered in make-up, they can come back.. if they are human/humanoid no make-up.. that was it.. used, marked and burnt.

So far in the MCU we had Alfre Woodard play as both Mariah Dillard (Luke Cage) and Miriam Sharpe (Cap. Am: Civil War).. this is NOT acceptable from a fan point of view, it breaks immersion with that world.

Now.. Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva (Cap Marvel) and Sersi (Eternals) is OK.. because as Minn-Erva she was covered in make-up.

I got badly downvoted on Reddit for saying this before.. but it's the accepted practice on the aforementioned fandoms.

Jeffrey Combs is one of the *most* prolific Star Trek actors in history (playing 9 different roles), but you would never know.. as often it's hidden from us and only his distinctive voice gives him away.

Fantastic Four

I loved the old 2000's FF movies.. can't wait to get the first one back on Disney+.

John Krasinski as Reed is a great idea.. I'd even like it if he and the FF team were from an alternate reality that shared the same backstory (and people) as FF fox movies..

What I'm imagining is.. a much older Reed Richards..

Reed Richards = John Krasinski

Susan Storm-Richards = Emily Blunt (not my first choice but.. they are married IRL)

Johnny Storm =  Charlie Carver (with dyed blonde hair)

Ben Grimm = Michael Chiklis (a return to the role)

Julian McMahon = Doctor Doom (he was great in this role!)

Ioan Gruffudd was good as Reed, but you can't beat that fan support. We can't have the same Johnny Storm because he was/is Captain America now, and because we have John Krasinski it makes sense to have Emily Blunt instead of my choices of.. a return of Jessica Alba or the excellent Chloë Grace Moretz. I don't really like Emily Blunt's acting.. I always feel as if I'm being talk to like a naughty school-child when she speaks.. don't like that. I don't think she's a good fit for the bubbly and often dippy Susan Storm.

No one is being mean or sexist to Susan for writing her as she is.. she is bubbly and dippy, that's who she is.. you get bubbly and dippy males and no one says anything.. why should anyone get annoyed if that personality type is female either? its 50/50.

Anyways..

Think I've written enough.. maybe time to wake up a bit more get a drink and a smoke..

toodles!

Dava

Charlie Carvers acting was solid in Ratched.. really good. my review.

Punisher and Jessica Jones were clever and made me think. Luke Cage made me feel badaz. Daredevil made me think about morality vs faith (my faith Catholicism). I didn't know how to feel about Iron Fist.. it had some great moments.. maybe its better to understand it in a greater context..

(iirc first heard Charlie from Emergency Awesome say this:

Maybe K'un Lun and Te Lo along with Kamar Taj are the 'cities of heaven' mentioned.. it definitely would streamline things and make it easier to understand... there is.. 7 cities? )
