Hi
The whole thing makes sense to me if this is all canon..
The Ultra-Traditional and dark Superman..
see below..
My recommended play-order:
Superman I
Supergirl
Superman II
Superman Returns
Superman III
Superman IV
Kingdom Come
I have seen the promo. so the Reeve-Routh Superman is post Kingdom Come @ gray hair.
Arrowverse - Infinite Crisis
I feel this bookends the Reeve-Routh Superman's story nicely.
----------
Post I made on the DCUO forums.. (+ new edits)
Sooo.. currently watching my Superman collection.. which I count as 5 including Routh's Superman, since the Studio didn't pickup for another midquel. (they were meant to continue and replace III/IV from Returns onwards)
That movie wasn't Brandon's fault.. or even Kevin Spacey's fault.. as Kevin Smith shared his experience with that certain producer.. in short the producer was a nutcase. I don't blame anyone involved with that movie after hearing Kevin Smith's story.
So now I prose this.. because the last two movies were pretty dark (if I am remembering correctly I'm only on Superman I), and Kingdom Come Superman is a mix of ultra traditional and dark.. I guess we could consider all 5 canon with Arrowverse Infinite Crisis being the bookend to the Reeve-Routh Superman.
Just cutting it at Routh seems a cheating way out..
Watching Superman I.. from the start.. Zod is a much darker Zod..I always see him as a slightly morally ambiguous character in that he sworn to protect the Kryptonian way of life, but has a noble contesting that in Kal El. He seems like a Kingdom Come Zod to me.
The Richard Pryor meets Superman movie of III.. is the light hearted adventure we need before returning to the noble but ultimately dark Kingdom Come Superman..*spoiler*.. it has been 32 years.. when this dark Superman kills Nuclear Man.
Superman III had the Dark Bizarro Superman as well..
Personally all this makes sense to me.. that the Reeve-Routh Superman was in his heart.. breakable.. mortal and fragile.. and the Joker killing Lois.. broke him.
I mean he gave up his powers for Lois after.. what 4 dates?.. this is a person who is vulnerable.. a person who *could* be broken.. a person who due to his vulnerability could turn dark after being broken..
What I'm saying the darkness was always in the background waiting.. even in the lighthearted Superman III.
Like it or not.. Superman III is my favorite out off the Superman movies.. and out of the whole set, probably Supergirl is my favorite.. but that was.. well, I kinda fell in love with Helen Slater when I was 10 years old kinda thing.. but the movie still stands.
Sure sure.. Superman IV had loads of hoaky scenes.. but maybe now instead of them being hoaky.. their strangeness could be well placed inside the Kingdom Comes reality..
It also makes Lex's Superman mutant clone of 'Nuclear Man' a more potent and again, darker threat.
Retcons
Q: What happened to Jonathan Kent (Jason) from Superman Returns in this reality?
Well.. let's retcon a little.. sometime around/before Superman III.. off screen Lois and Clark have a falling out due to Lois keeping him a secret.. Clark drifts away.. but during this time Jonathan (Jason) dies (again off screen) and Clark is not around to protect him.. this is why in Superman III .. Clark is dating Lana... then.. after this Lois and Clark band together again.. I would say we are picking up 2 to 3 years after Superman Returns..
Q: What happened to Eve Teschmacher?
I would suggest.. Lex killed her for betraying him. This is why we get Kitty Kowalski.. who was Lex's nurse in prison (probably Stryker's prison).
We never see Ms. Teschmacher in Supes III or IV.
Q; Isn't the Reeves-Routh Superman .. a bit stalky?
Well he does kiss Lois after sleeping with her to make her forget he is Superman.. but this in context of a relationship.. is OK I think.. it's not like they were strangers.. yes it is a bit date-rape-y.. but you can tell Clark is an innocent lamb.. naive like a child in the back of his mind, whenever he is around Lois.. Lois makes him innocent in outlook.. without her.. the world for this Superman is dark.
Seen in proper context..
Lois remembers (by the time of Superman Returns) due to the pregnancy that Clark is Superman.. the pregnancy must have triggered her.. and she is more mad about him leaving than making her forget.
Q: Jason Lane/Jonathan Kent.. how did he die?
Well we only have imagination for that.. but
1. It must have involved Kryptonite.
2. It could have involved Lex Luthor due it Kryptonite being his 'weapon of choice'.. but this could be another bad guy.
After Jason dies.. Lois kind of loses it. She goes in holiday to avoid Clark for a while.. this is why we don't see much of her during Supes III. Getting over the loss of their son.
Clark is in denial. He is a fragile person inside.. and just acts normally. Everyone else at the Daily Planet has been told Jason is living with Lois' mother.. (her father is General Lane).. Perry has been told that the child wasn't Richards. He was angry at first, but Richard confessed he always knew so Perry's anger transferred to Richard.
hmm sidething.. Annette O'Toole was my first red haired crush..
Imagine this..
When little Ricky is calling on bizarro Superman outside the bar.. imagine the context that Clark and Lois lost the child. How much Clark would hate himself for being weak and losing Jason.
This whole scene could be retcon contextualized through the eyes of an internal battle over Jason dying.
---------------------
Kryptonite
---------
Synthetic Bizarro Superman III
Plutonium .. 15.08%
Tantalum.. 18.06%
Xenon.. 27.71%
Promethium.. 24.02%
Tar.. 0.57%
Superman Returns
Vanilla Kryptonite
"sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide with fluorine".
Superman III one makes waaay more sense.. as Superman Returns lacks a radioactive element.
